Joanne Vondenhuevel
Joanne E. "Jo" Vondenhuevel age 83 of New Bremen, died on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 5:05 A.M. at Elmwood of New Bremen.
She was born on March 18, 1935 in Maria Stein, the daughter of the late William B. and Mary J. (Buening) Overman. On June 2, 1956, she married Walter F. Vondenhuevel, who preceded her in death on February 1, 2008.
Surviving are her children Karen (Robert) Drees of Botkins, and Gary (Kris) Vondenhuevel of St. Marys, and her grandsons Kile Vondenhuevel of St. Marys, and Chad Vondenhuevel of Cincinnati.
Along with her parents and husband, Joanne was preceded in death by her siblings; Irene Lallemand, Leroy Overman, Victor Overman, Evelyn Eiting, Eugene Overman, and Edgar Overman.
Jo was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen. She had attended St. John's School in Maria Stein, and worked at Crown Equipment Corp. in New Bremen for some 32 years, and retired as a high speed print operator, in 1997.
Jo was an avid seamstress; she made a lot of her children's clothes during their childhood, and also made many quilts that her family cherishes. She was a part of many mail order sewing and craft clubs where she hand made many crafts.
She loved to travel, and she was able to visit 49 states - Hawaii being the only state she did not see. Jo was a member of the Auglaize County Council of Aging, the Crown 25 Year Club, and enjoyed researching and recording family genealogy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen, with the Rev. Fr. Thomas Dorn, officiating. Interment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery of New Bremen.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and one hour prior to the Mass on Friday, at the church.
Memorial contributions in memory of Jo can be made to the Wilson Hospice or to Auglaize County Council on Aging.
