Jeanette Bruns
Jeanette D. Buns, age 78, passed away at Hospice of Dayton on May 19, 2018 after a two-year fight with pancreatic cancer.
She was born on September 12, 1939 in Maria Stein, Ohio to Armella and Leo Hausfeld. As the youngest of nine siblings, Jeanette enjoyed romping around on the family farm where she developed a love of animals (especially dogs and cats).
Jeanette attended high school at Marion Local, where she played clarinet in the marching band and was a member of the cheer team. There, she met the devilishly dashing Omer Bruns, who swept her off her feet.
On November 21, 1959, Jeanette and Omer married and purchased a home in Dayton, where they would raise their three sons - Keith, Ron, and Dave - and daughter, Lisa.
Jeanette was devoted to Queen of Martyrs Church and School, serving as president of the school board, athletic association member, teacher's aide, parish council member, giving tree coordinator and Eucharistic minister.
Jeanette's generosity and involvement was not limited to Queen of Martyrs, though. She donated over 17 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross and was a regular volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul, the Ronald McDonald House and Northeast Church's Food Pantry.
Though she was busy worker bee, Jeanette always made time to watch her beloved University of Dayton Flyers men's basketball. As a season ticket holder, she spent many-a-game hootin' and hollerin' at great plays and blind refs.
In addition to basketball, Jeanette loved morning Mass and breakfast with her Queen of Martyrs family, playing tennis, gardening, traveling, watching her grandkids compete in sports and spending time with her loved ones. She will be remembered for her good-humor and witty comebacks, which she continued to dish out through her final days.
Jeanette is survived by her three sons, Keith (Lori) Bruns, Ron Bruns, Dave (Jenny) Bruns; one daughter, Lisa (David) O'Hanian; three sisters, Madonna Goecke, Agnes Schulze and Esther (Bill) Willke; her brother, Greg (Joan) Hausfeld; 12 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-laws Willy and Bertie Bruns, Dennis and Elaine Bruns, Gene and Jeannie Bruns, Evelyn Bensman, John and Irene Bruns, Laverne and Wilma Bruns, Mary and Paul Gagel, Lois and Nick Kremer, and Mark and Cindy Bruns.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Omer Bruns; parents, Leo and Armella Hausfeld; three brothers, Roman Hausfeld, Ivo Hausfeld and Urban Hausfeld; one sister, Rosanna Kleinhenz; and brother and sister-in-laws, Richard Schulze, Robert Kleinhenz, Louis (Bing) Goecke, Margie Hausfeld and Don Bensman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church, 4134 Cedar Ridge Road, Dayton, Ohio. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Friends and loved ones may call from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Martin Funeral Home, "Northridge Chapel," 5040 Frederick Pike at Needmore Road.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church or Elizabeth New Life Center.
The family thanks the caregivers at Hospice of Dayton for their devoted, compassionate care for Jeanette in her final days.
