Larry Rismiller
Larry J. Rismiller, age 70 of New Bremen, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at 6:57 P.M. at the University of Cincinnati Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio.
He was born on February 9, 1948 in Darke County, Ohio, the son of the late Herbert J. and Barbara L. (Tharp) Rismiller. On July 26, 1969, he married Bonnie L. Burns, and she survives in New Bremen.
Also surviving are their children and their spouses Kim (Brad) Waterman of New Knoxville, Brian (Julie) Rismiller of Sidney, Rob (Krista) Rismiller of Monroe, Ohio, seven grandchildren; Melissa and Jay Waterman, Jenna and A.J. Rismiller, and Alyssa, Avery, and Camden Rismiller, a brother Tom (Gwyn) Rismiller of Versailles, and a sister Sue (Bryan Sharp) Rismiller of Greenville.
Along with his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law Diane (Charles) Seger.
Larry was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen. He was a 1966 graduate of Versailles High School. Larry proudly served our country as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War, where he earned the rank of Sergeant. For his bravery and service to our nation, Larry was awarded four Purple Hearts and a Silver Star.
He was a member of the Chickasaw VFW, the DAV, and was a member of the New Bremen American Legion Post 241, where he had been Past Commander.
For many years he managed the fertilizer plant in New Bremen, and was also in seed sales until his retirement in 2011. After his retirement, Larry drove a school bus for several years for the Auglaize County Developmental Disabilities program.
In his spare time, Larry could often be found riding around on his motorcycle. He and Bonnie loved to travel, and took many trips with their friends. They especially enjoyed taking trips to the beach, and trips to visit Larry's Marine Corps friends. Together they also enjoyed attending and playing in tennis tournaments, playing softball, boating, and attending their grandchildren's sporting events.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul United Church of Christ with the Pastor Dee Schroer officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery near North Star.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Bremen American Legion.
