Barbara Westgerdes
Barbara Ann (Nieport) Westgerdes, age 70, of Russia, Ohio, passed away of natural causes at her residence Monday afternoon, February 11, 2019.
She was born August 9, 1948, in Coldwater, Ohio, to the late Bernard and Theresa (Griesdorn) Nieport. On June 29, 1968, at St. Henry Catholic Church in St. Henry, Barb married Kenneth J. Westgerdes who survives.
She is also survived by one son, David and Linda (Holdheide) Westgerdes of Piqua along with a granddaughter, Alyssa Marie Westgerdes and fiance Eric Swartz; one sister, Mary Ann Wolf of Celina and several brothers & sisters-in-law: Ronald & Jan Westgerdes of Coldwater, Marilyn Parker of Village Mills, TX, Daniel & Bernece Westgerdes of Minster, Paul & Jane Westgerdes of Mendon, JoAnn & Steve Jackson of Cedar Hill, TN, Gerald & Lee Westgerdes of Indianapolis, IN, Herbert & Kay Westgerdes of Fort Recovery, Arlene & Robert Luttmer of Versailles, Sandra & Steven Knoth of Fort Recovery and William & Kelly Westgerdes of Celina.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Cynthia Marie Westgerdes; a brother, John Nieport and brothers in-law, Ronald Wolf and Larry Parker.
Barb was a 1966 graduate of St. Henry High School. She retired from the Versailles Health Care Center in 2010. Previously she worked at Spring Creek Concrete in Hardin. After retiring, Barb worked part time at Overtime Insurance Investments, LLC of North Star and had also been acting secretary for the Minster Fraternal Order of Eagles.
She was a member of St. Remy Catholic Church and the Minster Eagles Auxiliary. Barb loved to take long walks; she also enjoyed mowing the lawn, camping, puzzles, working with numbers and looking after her cat.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, February 15, 2019, at St. Remy Church in Russia with Fr. Martin Fox presiding. Interment will follow at St. Martin Cemetery in Osgood.
Friends may call Thursday 3:00 to 7:00 PM and Friday 9:00 to 9:45 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
Memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
