COLUMBUS - Gov. Mike DeWine said he will recommend a gas tax hike on Thursday to the General Assembly to help cover the cost of roadway work.
DeWine at an Associated Press forum on Tuesday indicated a gas tax rate increase is the only viable way to address a recently discovered roadwork funding structural deficit. He did not say by how much he proposes to increase the gas tax rate, which is now 28 cents per gallon. [More]

COLDWATER - Waynesfield-Goshen defeated Parkway 53-31 on Dec. 18.
The Tigers had to work a lot harder for a win against the Panthers in the Division IV sectional opener on Tuesday.
Parkway jumped out to an 11-0 lead, but Kayla Wicker scored 30 points as Waynesfield-Goshen fought back and put away the game late for a 48-37 victory at the Palace. [More]

Large group of area swimmers will compete in Canton this week
Twelve high school swimmers posed together for pictures at the Auglaize/Mercer Counties Family YMCA North Branch on Tuesday.

All-MAC Girls Basketball Team
Minster sophomore Ivy Wolf earned the Midwest Athletic Conference's top honor as the coaches announced their All-Conference honors on Tuesday.
Wolf was named the Player of the Year by the coaches in helping the Wildcats to their third conference title in four years in going 9-0.
