David V. Schmackers, age 59, of Philothea, died Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at his home.

He was born July 22, 1961 in Coldwater to the late James G. Schmackers & Geraldine (Heckman) Schmackers who survives in Philothea. On July 14, 1990 he married Alexa (Boyd) who survives in Philothea.

He is also survived by his children, Aron & Angie Castle of Coldwater, Jessica & Jordan Woeste of Coldwater and Eric & Erica Schmackers of Celina; grandchildren, Wynne Castle, James & William Woeste, and Briley Schmackers; siblings, Mike & Sally Schmackers of Celina, Joan & Jim DeArmond of Celina, Sandy & Randy Kaiser of Coldwater, Deb & Shawn Morris of Philothea and Tom Schmackers of Philothea; parents-in-law, Louis & Debra Boyd of St. Paris; and in-laws, Gina & Don Macy of Troy, Lisa & Mark Hery of Piqua, Bobby Boyd of Piqua and Tez & Dan LaRoche of West Liberty.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother Doug Schmackers.

He pursued his faith at New Life Christian Center in Celina and spent much time reading his Bible and allowing the Lord to guide his steps. He was a member of the International Bowhunters Organization and was an avid bow shooter. There was not a day that went by that he did not have a few arrows hit the bullseye. He worked at Cheeseman Trucking for 15 years.

Above all, Dave was a proud grandpa to which he loved to razz his grandchildren, give many tractors rides, bow lessons and cookies. He was a faithful husband who loved to travel to the outdoors with Alexa, and visit the family farm where hunting was a pillar of his life.

Funeral Services following all CDC guidelines will be held 10 AM Saturday, December 12, 2020 at New Life Christian Church in Celina. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Philothea.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 pm on Friday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater and after 9 am Saturday at the church.
