Bruns, Moore win in tourney

The Lima Junior Golf Association summer tour stopped at Celina Lynx Golf Club on Thursday for the Superior Credit Union Open, with a number of local golfers getting a chance to compete.
Fort Recovery's Jalyn Bruns came up with a strong day, winning the girls' 16-18 year old division with a round of 4-over 76 to edge Lima Central Catholic's Bridget Mulcahy by three strokes.
Coldwater's Jordan Hemmelgarn finished tied for sixth with an 87 with Celina's Grace Romer finishing tied for ninth with an 89. St. Marys' Eva Youngs finished 15th with a 99 with Celina's Maddie Fleck shooting a 104 to finish 16th.
In the boys' 16-18 division, St. Marys' Andrew Moore and Elida's Carson Harmon were the only golfers to break par on the day. Moore edged Harmon, the 2020 Western Buckeye League Golfer of the Year, 70-71 to win the title. Moore's Roughrider teammate Cole Koenig shot even-par 72 to take third place.
St. Marys' Calvin Caywood finished 16th with an 84. Coldwater's Hayden Beougher and Fort Recovery's Isaac LeFevre finished tied for 22nd with matching 86s while Coldwater's Keegan Bruggman tied for 26th with an 87. Other local finishers in the division were St. Marys' Joshua Sudman and Coldwater's Keaton Bruns (tied for 35th with 101), St. Henry's Josh Rindler (38th with 103), St. Marys' Brett Speckman (41st with 104) and Celina's Kale Sudhoff and St. Marys' Hunter Huston (tied for 43rd with 107).
Coldwater's Ben Giere won the boys' 14-15 division with an 83. Minster's Jack Meyer shot a 84 to finish fifth with St. Marys' Aiden Meinerding taking sixth with a 95. St. Marys' Braylon Lampert was eighth with a 106 with St. Henry's Zach Rindler taking ninth with a 113.
St. Marys' Carson Meinerding finished fifth in the boys' 12-13 division with a nine-hole round of 52. Fellow Roughrider Jake Ackroyd finished sixth with a 55.
The next stop on the tour will be Tuesday at Springbrook Golf Club in Lima.

GLSCL BASEBALL
Mariners 12, Locos 7
Grand Lake scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to break a 7-all tie and added insurance late to snap a three-game losing streak in beating the rival Locos for the first time this season at Simmons Field.
The Mariners scored seven runs in the top of the third to take a 7-2 lead. Marcus Ernst belted a two-run single and Grand Lake added runs via a bases-loaded walk followed by back-to-back bases-loaded hit by pitches.
Lima scored three in the bottom of the third and single runs in the fourth and fifth to tie the game. In the top of the sixth, Garrett Felix tripled home Ernst and Noah Thigpen to break the tie. The Mariners added a run in the eighth when Ernst scored on a wild pitch and then added two more in the top of the ninth on a two-run double by Ernst.
Wapakoneta graduate Joel Roediger pitched five innings of relief to earn the victory. Keegan Gavin pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to close the door.
Ernst went 3-for-6 with four RBI and three runs scored for Grand Lake. Thigpen added a double.
Trace Blue went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI for the Locos
The Mariners wrap up the road trip tonight at Galion against the Graders before returning home this weekend for games with Sandusky on Saturday and Royal Oak on Sunday.
