Frank Klatt Jr.
Frank P. Klatt, Jr., 93, of St. Marys, Ohio, died 8:24 p.m. on Saturday July 31, 2021, at Otterbein - St. Marys.
He was born November 9, 1927, in Milwaukee, Wisc., to Frank and (Alma) (Auler) Klatt, Sr. On August 16, 2003, in Dayton, he married Bonnie L. Masters-Gulling, who survives.
Also surviving are: son Robert (Sarah) Klatt of Carlsbad, Calif.; son David "Deke" Klatt of Carpentaria, Calif.; daughter Lizbeth (Ed) Maul of Whitefish, Mont.; daughter Susan (Tony) Howard of Ventura, Calif.; stepson Michael (Amy Rauch) Prether of Dayton; step-daughter April (Dennis) Prether-Delphenic of Dayton, Ohio; three granddaughters; three great-grandsons.
Preceded in death by: his parents, his sister Carol; and his sister Jean.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, he proudly served as a captain in the Ballistic Missile Division and military intelligence. He was a graduate of University of Michigan and University of Wisconsin, having earned Master's degrees in mechanical engineering and aeronautical engineering. He retired from the Aerojet-Rocketdyne Corp. in Ventura, Calif., where he was Senior Project Engineer for RamJet Propulsion Systems.
A true "rocket scientist," he immensely enjoyed his life's work and the contributions he was able to make to space travel. Frank also helped to design the "Innovations in Aviation and Aerospace Discovery" display for the Florida Air Museum. A model train enthusiast, he designed and built an outdoor exhibit near his residence in Dayton, which was featured in numerous newspaper and magazine articles. He also enjoyed sailing his boat throughout the Pacific Ocean.
Rites are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Friday August 6, 2021, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West) in St. Marys. Military funeral honors will be presented at the conclusion of the services.
Visitation is from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
