St. Marys' Tyler Hisey, left, tries to take down Mentor Lake Catholic's Joey Romano during the fifth-place match at 113 pounds at the Division II state wrestling tournament on Sunday in Columbus.

COLUMBUS - The wrestling season ended for the brothers Hisey like all wrestlers want their season to end, with their hands held up in victory.
Senior twins Tyler and Trevor Hisey and their little brother, freshman Tate Hisey, wrapped up the season with All-Ohio finishes and a spot on the podium at the Division II state wrestling tournament that wrapped up Sunday at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
Two years after Tyler and Trevor were scheduled to compete at state but were denied by the pandemic and a year after Tyler Hisey finished third at 113 pounds, the brothers finished up in solid fashion.
"It was fun wrestling each other, coaching each other and helping each other," said Trevor Hisey. "Every day was so fun."
Tyler Hisey lost his first match of the season in the 113-pound quarterfinals to Lake Catholic's Joey Romano on Saturday, but bounced back to defeat Licking Valley's A.J. Kimble and St. Clairsville's Gannon Kazmirski to reach the consolation semifinals and a chance to wrestle for third place for a second straight season.
Aurora's Codie Cuerbo scored a 10-5 decision to drop Tyler into the fifth-place match - and a rematch against Romano. In the fifth-place match, Tyler scored a takedown and a two-point near-fall in the opening quarter and limited Romano to a couple of escapes to win via major decision 13-2 and end his season at 48-2.
"I reversed (Romano) after he beat me in the (quarterfinals)," said Tyler. "I got pinned, so that was nerve wracking. But I overcame that."

St. Marys' Trevor Hisey, left, battles Hartley's Aiden King in the 120-pound seventh-place match at the Division II state wrestling tournament at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.

Trevor Hisey lost in the 120-pound quarterfinal on Saturday to Steubenville's Brody Saccoccia 8-5 to drop into the consolation bracket. Trevor shut out Ontario's Riley Kleshinski 12-0 before losing a close 7-5 decision to Firelands' Ruben Pina-Lorenzana in the consolation quarterfinals, putting Trevor into the seventh-place match on Sunday against Hartley's Aiden King.
Trevor led 2-0 after the first period and a picked up a three-point near-fall before King broke free and scored a takedown to trail 5-3 after two periods. In the final period, Trevor escaped, got a takedown and a three-point near-fall to hold off King 11-7 and end his season at 48-3.
"I knew it was my last match, so I had fun with it, really," said Trevor.
St. Marys coach Larry Gruber will miss what the Hisey twins - who will both wrestle collegiately at Lourdes University in Sylvania - contributed to the Roughriders.
"Right now, it's hard to put into words how much they'll be missed," said Gruber. "They've been leaders. You can put them on the mat and they can coach as much as the coaches can. They've been wrestling for years, and not just in our practice. We'll have a practice and then they go and have another two-hour practice."

St. Marys' Tate Hisey tries to break free from Buckeye's Colyn Limbert during a 106-pound match at the Division II state wrestling tournament.

For the youngest Hisey, the road to the podium was bumpy after losing his opening match at 106 pounds on Friday. Tate Hisey had to win two straight matches on Saturday to earn a podium spot, getting an 8-1 win over Miami Trace's Lyric Dickerson and 4-2 over Carrollton's Landon Jenkins.
In Sunday's consolation semifinal, Tate lost an 11-0 major decision to Buckeye's Colyn Limbert to put the Roughrider freshman in the fifth-place match, where his opponent, who forfeited his consolation semifinal, did likewise in the fifth-place match to allow Tate to get an easy arm raise.
"It's a good experience. Great tournament," said Tate, who wraps up his first varsity season at 46-4. "Start of the season was rough. I feel, from the start of the season when I first started and now, there's a big difference."
Tate was happy to get a chance to wrestle with his older brothers, especially with all three getting a podium spot.
"It's amazing, really. A cool experience," said Tate Hisey. "Not a lot of people can say that (they) and their brothers all placed at the state tournament."
Teammate Garrett Donovan ended his season at 39-9 on Saturday after losing in the second round of the 165-pound consolations via a 6-1 decision to DeSales' Lincoln Shulaw.
Celina's Landon Engle wrapped up his season at 132 pounds after losing in the second round of consolations via pin to Streetsboro's Donovan Paes. Engle, the Bulldogs' all-time win leader who will also wrestle at Lourdes, ends his season at 45-3. Teammate Jaden King also lost in the second round of consolations at 157 pounds on Saturday, losing to Cody Matthews of Marengo Highland via 4-1 decision to wrap up his season at 44-6.
Coldwater's Will Fox, who won his opening match at 285 pounds on Friday night, lost via pinfall to Delta's Austin Kohlhofer on Saturday morning, then a short time later lost to United's Dallas McCracken via pinfall to end his season at 39-15.
