Lucille Scheer
Lucille M. Scheer, age 93, of Minster, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 2:55 A.M. at the Elmwood Assisted Living in New Bremen.
She was born on December 9, 1928 in McCartyville, the daughter of the late George T. and Bertha C. (Behr) Platfoot. On November 29, 1947, in McCartyville, she married James H. Scheer. Together they enjoyed 74 wonderful years of marriage, and he survives near Minster.
Also surviving are her three children: Jim (Karen) Scheer of Celina, Bruce Scheer of New Bremen, Teresa Harris of Longmont, CO, and two daughters-in-law: Dot Scheer of New Bremen, and Robin Scheer of St. Marys. Also left to cherish her memory are her seven grandchildren: Becky (Steve) Pape, Tod (Dawn) Scheer, Gregg (Brittany) Scheer, Tammy Scheer, Kelly (Chris Enright) Scheer, Amy (Rich) Collins, and Lindsay (Mike) Gast; her thirteen great-grandchildren, and a brother Norbert (Alice) Platfoot of Sidney.
She was preceded in death by two sons: Ron Scheer and Brad Scheer, a son-in-law Ken Harris, and a daughter-in-law Donna Scheer; five brothers: Herbert, Robert, Raymond, Norman, and Orville "Orie" Platfoot; and seven sisters: Agnes Cloppert, Irene Heeter, Sally Ware, Esther Scheer, Jeanie Billing, Mary Platfoot (infant), Isabelle Platfoot (infant); and her in-laws: Lela Mae Billger, Ralph Scheer, Roger "Bud" Scheer, Sylvester "Bill" Scheer, Robert Scheer, Delbert "Butch" Scheer, and Lafe Jr. "Jack" Scheer.
Lucille was a beautiful and vivacious lady. Being one of fourteen children, she was not afraid of hard work. She was a fearless woman ahead of the times. From a young age, she thought that whatever a guy could do she could do it too, and possibly do it faster. She always worked outside of the home while raising her five children. She was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain. She was hard-working and played even harder. She was young in spirit and opened her heart and her home to many. She knew people from all walks of life and wanted equality for everyone. She was very supportive of her husband in all of his endeavors. Over the decades, she gave many volunteer hours to the Elks and other charitable organizations. Over the years, she had worked at Huffys, Goodyear, and the former Siberling Latex, and in 1967 she went to Oklahoma to help set up the Siberling Latex plant there. She was a realtor and along with her husband, they established Scheer Real Estate.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Lucille can be made to support Wilson Home Health and Hospice (1081 Fairington Drive, Sidney, OH 45365), or another local hospice organization.
Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen is assisting the family, and online condolences can be left on the funeral home website at www.gilberghartwigfh.com.
