Marion Local's Lindsey Koenig, seated center, will attend Owens Community College and play volleyball for the Express. Seated with Lindsey are her parents Kelly and Dan Koenig. Standing from left are Owens coach Denny Caldwell, Marion assistant Katie Rosenbeck, head coach Anthony Chappel and assistant coach Leah Prenger.

MARIA STEIN - Lindsey Koenig will move from being a Flyer to riding on the Express.
The Marion Local senior will continue her education and volleyball career next season at Owens Community College in Toledo, joining one of the best junior college programs in the nation.
"They have a really good surgery tech program," said Koenig. "I went up for my visit to visit the (surgery tech) program, I met Denny (Owens coach Denny Caldwell) and just fell in love with the volleyball program. My coaches and teammates around here have always pushed me to be a competitor, so I didn't want to give it up yet."
The Express, which has had several former area players on its roster over the years, is coming off another tremendous season. Owens finished 29-7 overall this season and 13-1 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Association this season. The Express reached the National Junior College Athletic Association's Division III National Championship match in Rochester, Minnesota, on Nov. 12, falling to the College of DuPage (Illinois) on four sets.
"I'm very, very excited," said Koenig. "I hope I can be able to (play for a national title) in my two seasons up there."
Koenig was a major contributor for Marion this past season, as the Flyers finished with a 20-5 record and reached the Division IV district final before losing to eventual state champion New Bremen. Koenig led the team with 238 kills (2.9 per set) and 61 blocks (0.8 per set) and earned first team all-Midwest Athletic Confernence, all-District 8 and all-Ohio by the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association.
When asked what she'll take from her years at Marion, Koenig focused on several items.
"Just being a competitor and doing everything I've been taught to do," said Koenig. "And leave it all out on the court."
