Sylvia Shepherd
Sylvia M. (Vondrell) Shepherd, 94, died in Maria Stein on December 22, 2022.
She was born October 19, 1928 in Cassella, Ohio to August and Margaret (Grilliot) Vondrell. On August 26, 1966, in Lorain, OH, she married Robert Shepherd who died in 2002.
She lived in Lorain County for 38 years before moving to St. Marys in 2003. She was a graduate of St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing, Covington, KY, The University of Dayton and the Catholic University of America, Washington DC. She was active in nursing for 35 years. Sylvia taught nursing at Lorain Community College in Elyria for 21 years before retiring in 1986.
A sister Marlene Huelsman of Cassella, OH and a brother Dr. John (Carol) Vondrell of Brookfield, WI survive.
A brother Dale and his wife Betty and a brother-in-law Bob Huelsman preceded her in death.
Sylvia is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Tess & Don Mescher whose family were her caregivers. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church in St. Marys, OH.
At her request there will be no visitation or memorial service. Burial of cremains will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Elyria, OH.
