Elton Meiring
Elton "Sonny" Meiring, age 88 of Celina, Ohio, formerly of Minster, died at 7:29 PM on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, Ohio.
He was born on June 21, 1934 in Minster, Ohio to the late Frank & Rose (Jacobs) Meiring. He married Esther Vehorn on November 24, 1956 in St. John the Baptist Church, Maria Stein and she preceded him in death on July 14, 2002. He then married Marjorie (Lifer) Pore on December 1, 2012 and she survives in Celina.
He is also survived by children: Greg & Lisa Meiring, Bill Meiring and Sue & Jon Brandewie all of Minster, son-in-law Jim Dues, Minster, stepchildren: Kathy & Steve Lindeman, Karen & Bill Hope, Steve & Dana Pore, Cindy Ridenour, Scott Pore, 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Dottie Meiring, Minster.
He was preceded in death by daughter Kathy Dues, sons Robert Meiring and Rick Meiring, siblings Lucille & Clarence Miller, Stan & Mary Meiring, Odella & Norman Johnson, Alvera & Paul Miller, Marcus "Mike" & Irene Meiring, Roland "Mort" Meiring, Betty & Tom Heitbrink, in-laws: Sally & Vic Huelskamp, Vera & Werner Stucke, Mary & Al Miller, Vi & Al Ernst, Herb & Donna Vehorn, Bill Vehorn, Ralph & Nancy Vehorn.
He was a member of Our Lady of Guadelupe Church, Montezuma and a former member of St. Augustine Church, Minster. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War, member of the American Legion Post #387 and a former officer for the Minster Athletic Boosters. He was H.R. Director for Midmark and started Meiring Insurance. Sonny loved fishing and traveling.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Monday, February 13, 2023 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster. Burial with full military honors to follow in St. Augustine Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster on Sunday, February 12, from 1 to 5 PM and from 9:00 to 9:30 AM on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Minster American Legion Post #387.
