CARTHAGENA - Artistry Under the Dome will return to St. Charles April 14-16 with a full slate of works from the area's foremost artists following a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

Organizers said they are thrilled to once again showcase some of the finest examples of pottery, drawing, painting, fiber, glass, jewelry, photography and wood art from Mercer and Auglaize counties at the eighth edition of the juried fine art show and sale.

An opening reception is 6:30-9 p.m. April 14. The art show and fair is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. April 15-16. Free-will donations will be accepted to help fund the event.

Artistry Under the Dome was last held in April 2019 at St. Charles, a retirement home for priests and brothers and senior living facility at 2860 U.S. Route 127. Like just about everything else, the highly revered gathering of artists with local ties was upended with the arrival of COVID.

"We had to be careful with it being at St. Charles," said co-organizer and art quilter Marilyn Stall about the facility's aging population. "To have a thousand people come through on the weekend wasn't the safest thing those three years."

Prior to the three-year pause caused by the pandemic, the event had grown by leaps and bounds in prestige, scope and size with more professional artists displaying and/or selling their works and more types of artistic media on hand.

Each year a selection committee solicits and reviews submissions from artists with a connection to Mercer or Auglaize counties.

"Our guideline is they have to at some point in their life have lived here about two years," Stall said.

The committee tapped 28 artists for this year's event, including nine first-time exhibitors as well as seasoned presenters. All of the artists will be on hand at the show to meet with attendees and discuss their art.
