Waneta Journay
Waneta Dorothy Journay, 96, of New Weston, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater, Ohio.
She was born on October 29, 1926, in St. Mary's, Ohio, to the late Charles and Marie (Kuck) Wright.
Waneta is survived by her children, Barbara (Carl) Rismiller of Union City, Ohio, Sandra (Phillip) Hiestand of New Weston, Ohio, and Roberta Asbury of Salisbury, North Carolina; her grandchildren, Stephanie (Lance) Crum, Anita Smith, Carla (Jeff) Eck, Jason (Joy) Willeford, and Michelle Dean; her great grandchildren, Cole, Kyle, Brayden, Chloe, Olivia, Abigail, Andrew, Austin, Justin, Ashton, Remy, and Brycen, her great-great granddaughters, Ellie, Marleigh, and Addy; her half-sister, Ruth Ann DeWitt of New Gloucester, Maine; and her step-sister, Eileen Werling of Wapakoneta, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, Waneta was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Journay, whom she married on September 25, 1948 and who passed away on March 26, 2013; her children, Carolyn (Ronald) Weis and Patricia (William) Parks; her sons-in-law, Carl Willeford and Dale Asbury; her grandson, Stephan Parks; her siblings, Lois Wright, Allen (Eileen) Wright, Marjorie (Leland "Bill") Shelby, and Eileen (Leo) Chiles; her step-sister, Marie (Andrew) Graessle; and her stepfather, Louis Henchen.
Waneta graduated from the American School in Chicago, Illinois on April 18, 1968. Waneta dedicated her life as a homemaker, raising and caring for her family. She enjoyed scrapbooking and sewing. Each year Waneta planted her garden and looked forward to canning the produce she raised. She was especially fond of all natural and organic foods. Waneta was woman of faith and a member of the Pleasant Hill Church. She was also an active member of the Fort Recovery Order of the Eastern Stars, now known as the Celina Chapter #91 Order of Eastern Stars.
A Celebration of Waneta's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Brockman Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, with Pastor Bruce Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Guests may visit with Waneta's family on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
