Voters to decide township fire levy

Franklin Township fire levy

By Tom Millhouse
FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP - Township voters will decide on a five year, 1.1-mill renewal fire protection levy in the Nov. 7 general election.
The levy, which has been on the books since 1985, generates $84,000 per year. The owner of a home assessed at $100,000 would continue to pay $33 annually, according to the ballot language.
Montezuma Fire Chief Lee Braun said levy revenue goes toward equipment replacements. He said the department has been setting aside money to purchase a new tanker truck in about seven years. Braun said a new tanker truck will cost between $500,000 to $700,000.
