Hilda Siegel
Hilda Bernadette (Seger) Siegel, age 89, of Hickory Drive in Fort Loramie, Ohio, passed away peacefully of natural causes, surrounded by her family at her residence late Thursday evening, February 1, 2024.
She was born September 17, 1934, at her homeplace near Osgood, Ohio, to the late Leo & Anna (Lehnert) Seger. On October 18, 1956, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Osgood, Hilda married her husband of 40 years, Norbert Siegel who preceded her in death on April 7, 1997.
Surviving are three of five children: Mark Siegel (dec.), Dale (dec.) & Diane Siegel of Fort Loramie, Cheryl Arkenberg of Fort Loramie, Karen & Ernie Clayton of Versailles and Dave & Jodi Siegel of Fort Loramie; 13 grandchildren: Amanda & Luke Kuenning, Mitchell Siegel, Rachel & Josh Griffith, Maria & Matt Davis, Heather Siegel, Chad Arkenberg, Kelli & Wayne Johnson, Cody & Amanda Arkenberg, Eric & Emily Pepple, Brent & Emily Pepple, Travis, Carter and Tyler Siegel along with 14 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Linda Siegel of Fort Loramie and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two siblings, Rita and Urban Drees, and John and Judy Seger as well as sisters & brothers-in-law: Pauline Drees, Norma & Lester Bergman, Elizabeth & Jess Gossette and Roger Siegel.
Hilda was a dedicated matriarch and homemaker for her family. She also worked outside the home for the Shelby County Auditor's Office and The Dannon Company in Minster. Years ago, Hilda and her late husband Norb built and established several local businesses including Siegel's Landing (now Morrie's Landing), The Fort Loramie Laundromat & Dry Cleaners and The Fort Loramie Ice Company. She was a 1952 graduate of Minster High School. Mrs. Siegel was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church where she had been a CCD teacher, student walker volunteer and was active in St. Ann's Ladies Sodality (past president & officer) and the Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary. Hilda also belonged to the Fort Loramie American Legion Auxiliary (past president, officer & chicken fryer), Minster Eagles Auxiliary and was a founding member of the White Oaks Lake Club. She also served as an election poll worker for Cynthian and McLean Townships and had been a long-time blood bank volunteer.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Hilda was the happiest when she had her entire family together. She also enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, sewing, flower gardening, cooking and baking. Hilda was a caring person and was known to help anyone who came to her for whatever was needed. Hilda also appreciated the families of White Oaks Lake as if they were part of her own family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie with Rev. Aaron Hess presiding. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
Family and friends may call Tuesday, 3 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, 9 to 10 a.m. at Gehret Funeral Home.
