Alvin Dano Donovan, 93, of Celina, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Celina Manor.
Born on April 5, 1931, in Wren, Ohio, he was the son of the late Floyd and Elsie (Davis) Donovan. On October 15, 1961, Dano married Dorothy Lee (Collins) Donovan, who preceded him in death on April 13, 2006.
Dano is survived by his children: Doug Donovan of Fostoria, Vondell (Steve) Lusk of Celina, Kelly Donovan of Greensboro, North Carolina, Dana (Diane) Donovan of Celina, Dean (Carol) Donovan of Celina, Dano Donovan Jr. of Springfield, and Christina Donovan of Celina; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; as well as seven step-siblings. He was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Darrell and Tim Donovan.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Dano served for eight years during the Korean War era. He retired after a dedicated 34-year career as a truck driver. Throughout his life, Dano was an active member of the Grand Lake United Methodist Church in Celina and the Celina VFW Post #5713.
Dano had a love for life that shone through in everything he did. He enjoyed riding his bike, painting, fishing, hunting, woodworking, and tinkering around the house. He and his father built the house where he and Dorothy raised their family. He also enjoyed building model cars and airplanes and was passionate about boat racing. Above all, Dano was a family man who cherished his time with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren. His warmth, kindness, and devotion to his family will be deeply missed.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Mercer Memory Gardens in Celina, with Pastor Dean Bachelor officiating. Military honors will be rendered at the conclusion of the service by the Celina American Legion Post #210 and Celina VFW Post #5713. Dano will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Dorothy.
The family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Celina VFW Post #5713.
