Floyd Sheaks, Jr.
Floyd W. Sheaks Jr., 76, of St. Marys, OH passed away on December 27, 2025 at Otterbein St. Marys with his daughters by his side after a courageous fight with cancer.
He was born March 6, 1949 in Celina, OH to the late Floyd and Grace (Caccia) Sheaks. On February 21, 2004 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, he married Jean McDermitt, who preceded him in death on April 13, 2019.
He is survived by his daughters, Melissa (Shannon) Santee of Avon, Ohio, Tracy (Dean) Klosterman of St. Marys, Ohio and his beloved grandchildren: Grace Santee, Cameron Santee, Allie Santee, Ava Klosterman, and Brody Klosterman. He is also survived by his sister Mary Ann Sheaks of St. Marys, Ohio, sister-in-law Ruth Ann (Garry) Schwartz of Spencerville, Ohio, sister-in-law Mary (Robert) Howell of Moulton, Ohio, brother-in-law Charles Roy (Karen) McDermitt of Stockbridge, GA, sister-in-law Judy (Richard) Howell of Yorktown, IN, brother-in-law Freedus "Jake" (Deborah) McDermitt, Jr. of St. Marys, OH, and former spouse Cheryl (Waterman) Sheaks, Lakeland, FL.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where he was a 2nd grade "mass buddy" for his grandchildren. Floyd was also a member of the Celina Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge 767, VFW and the American Legion. He regularly donated blood for many years as well.
Floyd known to some as "Junior" was a 1967 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School. A true American patriot, Floyd proudly served his country in the United States Army with the 212th Military Police Company, 18th MP Brigade, from 1968 to 1970 during the Vietnam War. Prior to deployment, he trained alongside his K-9 partner, Bruce, a German Shepherd sentry dog, before being sent to South Vietnam.
Floyd spent two years serving in Vietnam before returning home. For his honorable service, he was awarded the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. One of his fondest memories later in life was the opportunity to participate in the 2017 Dayton Honor Flight, an experience he deeply cherished.
Floyd worked for many years at Midwest Electric, where he eventually retired. Even after retirement, he remained active and hardworking, mowing and maintaining yards for friends and family. In his younger years, Floyd could often be found helping his parents in their cotton candy trailer and serving snow cones at local festivals, an early reflection of his generosity and willingness to lend a hand.
A natural competitor and lifelong sports fan, Floyd enjoyed playing softball and basketball for many years. He was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, The Ohio State Buckeyes and proudly supported his hometown Rough Rider teams throughout his life. His greatest joy came later when he had the privilege of watching his grandchildren compete in sports. Whether games were close to home or miles away, Floyd made it a priority to be there. His steady presence in the stands, gentle advice, and encouraging words after tough losses will be deeply missed.
Above all else, Floyd will be remembered as a loving, devoted father and grandfather, and as a genuinely kind, caring man whose quiet strength and goodness left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
His family would like to thank Grand Lake Hospice and the staff at Otterbein St.Marys for their care and support during Floyd's final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Floyd's honor to Friends of Holy Rosary or to the Veteran's Foundation & Museum of St. Marys (VFMSM).
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church 511 E. Spring Street in St. Marys. Burial, with military graveside funeral honors, will follow at Gethsemane Catholic Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation will be held from 2 - 8 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026 at the Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703) in St. Marys and from 9:30 -10:30 am Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
