Marietta Godwin
Marietta "Mary" Godwin, age 88, of Mendon, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, at Trustwell Living at Miller Place in Celina, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born on January 1, 1938, to the late Joseph and Velma (Ballinger) Clay. She attended Mendon Union High School and went on to live a full and adventurous life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a lifelong passion for motorcycles.
On September 24, 1993, Mary married the love of her life, James F. Godwin, who preceded her in death on September 9, 2025. Jim already owned Jim's Harley-Davidson in Mendon, and after their marriage, Mary began working alongside him at the business in 1993. Together, they shared a deep love for the motorcycle community and built lasting friendships with riders from near and far.
For many years, Mary and Jim hosted a well-known motorcycle swap meet that drew vendors and enthusiasts from across the region. Through this, they met countless wonderful people and formed lifelong friendships. Mary also worked for 20 plus years at Huffy Bicycle in Celina, where she was known for her strong work ethic.
Mary found joy in motorcycles, traveling, and visiting casinos, but nothing compared to the life she shared with Jim and their love of bikes. Being surrounded by motorcycles throughout their life together was truly a dream come true.
Mary is survived by her children: Leigh Ann (Jim) Shaffer of Mendon; Greg (Penny) Zizelman of Mendon; Kevin Zizelman of Mendon; Sheryl (Jeff) Godwin-Routt of Van Wert; Jeffrey (Juli) Godwin of Westerville; Dianne (Ken) Wiehe of Celina; and Sharron (Tailo Brown) Godwin of Dayton. She was a proud grandmother to 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She is also survived by two sisters, Jeannie (Duane) Hamrick of Rockford and Audrey Clay of Connersville, Indiana; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Godwin; three sisters, Betty Godwin, Joanne "Cookie" (Gabe) Hoskins, and Harriet Lou Clay; a brother, Bob (Glenda) Ballinger; a son, Ricky Zizelman; a daughter, Deb Zizelman; and a granddaughter, Brittany Shaffer.
