St. Henry's Max Delzeith, seated center, will attend Defiance College and play baseball for the Yellow Jackets.
ST. HENRY - It will be a family reunion at Defiance College, as St. Henry's Max Delzeith announced Wednesday he will join his older brother Devin as a Yellowjacket next season.
"We were on the same team in high school but I never got to play with him," Max said. "It'll be a cool experience."
The St. Henry pitcher compiled a 3-2 record in 37.2 innings while striking out 36, walking 20 and finished the season with a sub-three ERA during the spring season. He finished the year with a 3-2 record with one save and a 1.31 WHIP. Those numbers earned him an all-MAC honorable mention during a season where the Redskins finished 11-13 before a postseason loss to Parkway.
Over the summer, Delzeith threw 43 innings, had 56 strikeouts with just 15 walks, and posted a 1.30 ERA. He finished the tournament with a 1-0 record and a 1.09 WHIP to aid St. Henry to the program's first ACME title.
Defiance is led by head coach Shane Gardner, who is in his third season at the school and his 14th season overall. The veteran skipper has a 24-63 record at Defiance, but the team's win total has gone up from nine in his first season to 15 last year. The team is currently 7-14 and competes in the NAIA's Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
"Ever since I went there it was really welcoming. (Gardner) is a good coach and as soon as he came in, they started to get better and better, so I thought I could help continue that process," Delzeith said.
