Marcella Mescher
Marcella M. "Sally" Mescher, age 96, of Versailles, passed away at 9:18 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at EverHeart Hospice Care Center in Greenville.
Sally was born on March 24, 1930, in Egypt, Ohio, to the late Bernard & Alma (Dorsten) Heitbrink. Sally was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph B. "Red" Mescher on October 21, 2006, whom she married February 18, 1950; infant sons, Ralph Jr. and Joseph Mescher; daughter, Lori Mescher; son-in-law, Richard Francis; granddaughter, Allyson Mescher; great-grandchildren, Kaydri Monnin and Jagger Piero Mescher; sister & brother-in-law, Janet & John Borgerding; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Otto & Rosa Mescher; and in-laws, Jean Heitbrink, Gene Mills, Lucille Nelson, Stanley & Mickey Mescher, Sr. Verlina Mescher, Vernie & Sherri Mescher, Viola Mescher, Warner Balster, and Mary Kathryn Mescher.
Sally is survived by her children, Ronald & Karen Mescher, Carol Francis, Theresa Mescher, Nancy & Cameron Franklin, Michael & Janice Mescher, Janice & Eugene "Bub" Monnin, Douglas & Neej Mescher, Kenneth & Sabina Mescher, and Lisa & Ty Gasper; 28 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great- grandchildren; brothers & sister-in-law, Maurice & Carol Heitbrink and Jim Heitbrink; in-laws, Elsie Balster, Dennis Mescher, Mary Lou Mescher, Jim Mescher, Sally Mills, Sr. Martha Mescher, Nicholas & Sally Mescher, and Dave & Lucy Mescher; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sally was a domestic engineer and bookkeeper for her husband's electrical business. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles, where she sang in the choir, and the Versailles Women's Bowling Association. She was a past member of the Versailles Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler for which she received Bowler of the Year, and an avid golfer in which she was proud of her hole-in-one on July 27, 2000. Sally was a huge fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Versailles Tigers sports. She enjoyed fishing, leatherworking, crafting, and painting.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2026, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Versailles with Rev. Fr. Matt Feist celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Valbert Cemetery, Versailles.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles.
Memorial contributions may be made to EverHeart Hospice, Versailles EMS, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or the Versailles Historical Society.
