Francis Hoehne
Francis "Frank" Louis Hoehne, age 93, formerly of Newport and Ft. Loramie, passed away peacefully of natural causes surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the Wilson Health Hospital in Sidney, Ohio.
Born on April 3, 1933, in Newport, Ohio, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Eleanor (Borchers) Hoehne. Frank graduated from Russia High School in 1951 and then served in the U.S. Army as a Crew Chief in the Korean War. Upon returning from the military, he worked at Goodyear in St. Mary's, Ohio before studying accounting at Miami Jacobs College in Dayton. Frank then held various accounting and managerial jobs including Wilson Memorial Hospital, Citizens Baughman National Bank, and Carl Subler Trucking before serving and retiring in 1995 as Shelby County Auditor after 12 years of service.
On April 19,1958, Frank married his first wife, Marlene Hoelscher at St. Michael Church in Ft. Loramie, Ohio. Together they shared 50 wonderful years and raised three sons before Marlene's passing in 2008. Years later, finding love a second time, Frank married Carol (Nuss) Prenger on July 31, 2021 in Ft. Loramie, Ohio and they enjoyed the life they had together at Ohio Living Dorothy Love creating cherished memories with their blended family.
Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother and enjoyed all the time spent with his family. He also enjoyed the time spent playing cards with friends. He was a gifted athlete back in the day who enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds. The family also thoroughly enjoyed Frank's basketball, baseball, and Korean War stories. In addition, he was a proud Veteran and was a devout member of Saints Peter & Paul and St. Michael parishes. He was involved in many organizations including Ft. Loramie American Legion (Life Member), Ft. Loramie Kiwanis/Community Service Club, St. Remy Knights of Columbus, Minster Fraternal Order of Eagles, Saints Peter & Paul Holy Name Society, and was a volunteer at Dorothy Love.
Frank is survived by his devoted wife Carol; his three loving children from his first marriage: Randy (Sandy Monnin) of Ft. Loramie, Charles (Carol Hoying) of Ft. Loramie, and Steve (Laura Moorman) of Findlay; his grandchildren Ryan (Alison), Megan (Matt Elsass), Kelly (Jared Taylor), Katie (Jon Frey), Brad and Brooke and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Sharon and Don Finkenbine of Minster, Cindy and Patrick Heitkamp of Maria Stein, Jim and Eileen Prenger of Minster, Diane and Tony Ungruhn of North Star, Mike Prenger of Russia and their families.
Brother and sister survivors are Dorothy (Gene) Richards of Versailles, Paul "Slim" (Connie) of Newport, Jan (Leon) Stockman and Jim (Mary) of Ft. Loramie and in-laws Doris and Ginny Hoehne of Ft. Loramie, and Kathy Hoehne of Houston. Other survivors include Cyril (Marilyn) Hoelscher, Judy Hoelscher, and Julianna Phlipot and numerous nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Marlene, Carl (Alberta) Hoehne, Urban Hoehne, Larry Hoehne, Ed Hoehne, Cyril (Marilyn) Hoehne, Albert (Lucille) Hoelscher, Jerome (Patricia) Hoelscher, Arnold (Dorothy, Mary) Hoelscher, Armella (Raymond) Albers, Paul Hoelscher, Nick (Marlene) Hoelscher, Nelson (Lucy) Hoelscher, Harold Phlipot, and special friend Joann Luebke.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at St. Michael Church in Ft. Loramie with the Rev. Steven Shoup and Deacon Paul Timmerman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery with full military honors. Family and friends may call Monday, 3:00 to 7:00 PM and Tuesday, 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Ft. Loramie.
