* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 12:40 PM EDT Sunday the stage was 13.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 13.0 feet this afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage just after midnight tonight. - Flood stage is 13.0 feet.

Robert McDermitt
Robert Eugene McDermitt, age 91, of St. Marys, Ohio passed away at home, family at his side, on Friday, May 29, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on January 15, 1935 in Glynwood,Ohio to the late Elroy and Onis (Craft) McDermitt. On April 25, 1970, he married Linda Rempe and she survives.
In addition to his loving wife of 56 years, Robert is survived by his children: Craig (Brenda) McDermitt of St. Marys, Michael (Kathie) McDermitt of New Bremen, John (Sally) McDermitt of Celina, Nicole (Jerry) Felver of St. Marys, Melissa (Rodney) Kiefer of St. Marys and Nathan (Britney) McDermitt of St. Marys. He was a proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren, multiple step grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great great grand daughter. He is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Wilkens of St. Marys and one sister in law Hyla McDermitt of Celina, Ohio
He was preceded in death by three brothers; Guy, Freedus and Norman McDermitt, and four sisters; Margaret Wehnes, Evelyn Wheeler, Betty Rumpff and Ruth Howell. Also preceding him in death was his daughter Deanna Slone and three angel grandbabies.
Robert was a 1953 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School. After graduation he worked for fifteen years at Weston Paper Mill until its closure. He then worked for the Ohio State Department of Natural Resources and retired as chief dredge operator at Grand Lake St. Marys after 25 years. He was a member of Grace Church St. Marys.
In his younger years, Robert enjoyed his 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk, hunting and fishing (especially his trips to Watts Bar Lake, Tennessee). His biggest pleasure throughout his life was his large vegetable gardens. He was a jack of all trades and could fix almost anything. He was a patient, even tempered, hard working, gentle man. He was proud of his family and will be deeply missed.
Funeral Rites are scheduled to begin at 12:00 noon Thursday June 4, 2026 at the Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West) in St. Marys, with the Rev. Bev Hurlburt, officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Auglaize County Council on Aging, Grace Church or Grand Lake Hospice of St. Marys Ohio.
