Paul Gehret
Paul Henry Gehret, age 93, of North Star, passed away peacefully of natural causes Monday morning, June 8, 2026, at The Gardens of St. Henry in St. Henry, Ohio.
He was born October 1, 1932, in Yorkshire, Ohio, to the late Joseph & Anna (Mueller) Gehret. On April 18, 1959, at St. Joe Catholic Church in St. Joe, Paul married Bernice (Fullenkamp) Gehret who preceded him in death on December 19, 2020.
Surviving are five of seven children: Joan Gehret of North Star, Doris (dec.) & Thomas Muhlenkamp of Ft. Recovery, Andrew & Tia Gehret of North Star, Daniel & Amy Gehret of North Star, Richard Gehret of North Star, Ivan (dec.) & DeAnna Gehret of Springfield and Gary & Jill Gehret of Yorkshire; 11 grandchildren: Amanda & Austin James, Beth & Aaron Kahlig, Samuel & Sarah Muhlenkamp, Ethan & Gracie Muhlenkamp, Jacob & Karlee Gehret, Mitchell & Suzanne Gehret, David Gehret, Ellie Gehret, Isaac & Bri Gehret, Ian & Logan Gehret and Paige Gehret along with 10 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Edward & Mary Lee Gehret of Willowdell, Mary Ann & John Kuether of Egypt and brothers & sisters-in-law: Louis Grieshop of Willowdell, Irene Gehret of Frenchtown, Dennis Heitkamp of New Bremen, Eva Gehret of Willowdell, Madonna Gehret of Versailles, Robert Fullenkamp of Ft. Recovery, MaryAnn & Ed Dirksen of St. Henry, Larry Meyer of Chickasaw and Dorothy Borger of St. Henry as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by nine siblings: Mildred & Virgil Bensman, Lawrence & Frances Gehret, Alfred & Rose Gehret, Vernon Gehret, Urban Gehret, Emma Rita Heitkamp, Joeseph Gehret, Anthony Gehret, Cyril & Margie Gehret and sisters & brothers-in-law: Mary Ann Grieshop, Mildred & Eugene Huelskamp, Dottie Fullenkamp, Tony & Rose Fullenkamp, Jeannette Meyer and Jim Borger.
Mr. Gehret was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. In 1997 he retired from PAX Steel in Coldwater where he had been employed 46 years. He was also engaged in farming all of his working life. Paul was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church where he had been a Eucharistic Minister and active in the Men's Sodality. He had also been a long-time St. Louis Cemetery sexton / board member and belonged to the Versailles Knights of Columbus and Darke County Right to Life. He was a life member of the North Star American Legion having held various offices and for a while served on the North Star Village Council.
Paul was dedicated to his family and had been richly entertained by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and metal working. He didn't waste anything that was thought to someday have a useful purpose. Paul was a man of deep faith, respected for being trustworthy and admired for a lifetime of choosing his words with a loving heart.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at St. Louis Catholic Church in North Star with Rev. Andrew Reckers presiding. Interment will follow at St. Louis Cemetery.
Family and friends may call Monday, 2:00 to 7:00 PM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie and Tuesday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the church.
