Celina High School graduate Seth Lonsway made his MLB debut on Saturday, pitching two innings for the San Francisco Giants in the first game of a doubleheader against Arizona.

From staff and wire reports

Seth Lonsway made the most of his several hours as a member of the San Francisco Giants.

The Celina High School graduate was called up Saturday before the Giants' doubleheader with Arizona at Oracle Park in San Francisco.

Lonsway had been pitching for the Giants' Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento, with a brief stint eariler this season at Double-A Richmond. Lonsway was 1-5 with a 5.95 earned run average with 16 starts in 21 appearances.

On Saturday, Lonsway got the call to San Francisco after the Giants optioned Spencer Bivens back to Sacramento. Matt Wilkinson, who would start the first game of the doubleheader, was also brought up to serve as the designated 27th player that is permitted for doubleheaders.

It did not take long for Lonsway, wearing No. 86, to make his first Major League Baseball appearance as he went to the mound to start the eighth inning with the Diamondbacks leading 4-0. Lonsway needed just three pitches to earn his first big league strikeout by fanning Ildemaro Vargas.

Corbin Carroll followed by reaching on a fielding error, then Gabriel Moreno singled to bring up Geraldo Perdomo, who singled home Carroll, but was tagged out going back to first. Lonsway wrapped up the inning by getting Nolan Arenado to ground out to third.

Lonsway returned for the top of the ninth and was greeted by three straight singles, with Jordan Lawlar's single scoring Tim Tawa to make it 6-1. After Ryan Waldschmidt reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases, Vargas grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to score Jorge Barrosa to make it 7-1. Lonsway then ended the inning by getting Carroll to look at strike three.

Lonsway threw 33 pitches, 22 going for strikes, allowed five hits and three runs, two earned, with no walks and two strikeouts.

After the game, Lonsway was sent back to the River Cats to bring up game two starting pitcher Yunior Marte.
