German Township fire, medical services levy on ballot
Election November 2013
NEW BREMEN - German Township Trustees are seeking a 1.5-mill tax levy for fire and emergency medical services.
Trustee Vernon Paul said the proposed millage was increased from the continuing 1.15-mill levy because more money is needed due to increasing costs of new equipment.
The current levy has remained the same since voters first approved it in 1984. It yields $14,000 annually.
If approved, the new levy will generate nearly $30,000 for the New Bremen-German Township Fire Department and New Bremen Emergency Medical Services.
"We have made do for more than 20 years but expenses keep climbing," Paul said. "We're hoping this levy will be sufficient for the same number of years but time will tell."
