Area players, coaches react to high court's decision on compensation

It will likely be years before Monday's U.S. Supreme Court decision has ramifications for sports in Mercer County, if it ever does. But as change looms in college sports, coaches and athletes at all levels are taking notice.
The decision, which ruled that an NCAA restriction on "education-related benefits" such as laptops and study abroad trips given to college athletes violated antitrust laws, is widely seen as the first step toward paying college athletes. [More]
Fieldhouse getting 100K facelift

CELINA - The iconic Celina High School Fieldhouse is undergoing a nearly $100,000 facelift ahead of an eventual $126.8 million school building project.
Contractors will replace lights, revamp the floor and put a new coat of paint on the ceiling of the building, superintendent Ken Schmiesing said this week. [More]

Coldwater district: Local funds outpace state funds

Mercer jobless rate up slightly
Mercer County's unemployment rate for May was 2.9%, up slightly from April's rate of 2.8%.
However, the county maintained its status as second lowest for joblessness among Ohio's 88 counties, according to an Ohio Department of Job and Family Services news release.
