Mark Wenning
Mark L. Wenning, age 95, of Saint Henry (formerly of Minster) died on March 25, 2026, at his beloved garden outside of Minster, Ohio. He was born on December 28, 1930, in Philothea, Ohio to the late Joseph and Josephine (Depweg Moeller) Wenning. He married Velma A. Bertke on May 6, 1950, in Minster. She preceded him in death on November 21, 1994.
On October 18, 1996, he married Joan (Backs) Gast in St. Henry. She preceded him in death on July 1, 2023.
Mark is survived by 6 children and their spouses, Joan (Bill) Ardis of Caledonia, MI, Carol (Tom) Monnier Detwiler of Minster, Barb (Dan) Heitkamp of Maria Stein, Susan (Leon) Mertz of Minster, Mark (Debbie) Wenning of Minster, and Eric (Jenny) Wenning of Xenia and 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Mark was preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Luebke and sons-in-law, Dan Luebke and Dale Monnier, great granddaughter, Riley McEldowney-Monnier, mother and father-in-law, Clarabelle and Aloys Bertke, step granddaughter, Anne Schwieterman Fullmer, and step grandsons Scott Albers and Anthony (Tony) Gast.
He is also survived by 5 stepchildren and their spouses, Trish (Frank) Albers, Nick (Connie) Gast, and Karl (Terri) Gast, all of St. Henry, Jane (Ralph) Schwieterman of Coldwater, Tim Gast of Akron, and numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mark came from a very large family. He was the last surviving sibling in his family. He was preceded in death by his siblings and spouses, Julietta (Ralph) Muhlenkamp, Isadore (Alberta) Wenning, Norbert (Betty) Wenning, Rita (Dick) Wenning, Hilda (Carl) Axe, Fred (Alma) Moeller, Martha (Ronald) Rawley, Rose Mary (Cornelius) Muhlenkamp, Louis (Mary) Moeller, Virginia (Harry) Streacker, Bernice (Ralph) Barge, Kenneth (Marcy) Wenning, Madonna (Joseph) Rose, and Francis Moeller, as well as his deceased in-laws, Viola Albers and Norman (Thelma and Kathleen) Bertke. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Albers and sister-in-law, Barb Wenning, both of Coldwater and in-laws Barbara and Tom Monnig and Faith (Jim) Backs.
Mark was a member of Saint Henry Catholic Church, Saint Henry, where he had been a communion distributor. He was a member of the Precious Blood Companions, Mercer County Garden Club, and Arrowhead Golf Club. He volunteered many hours with the upkeep of the woods around the Maria Stein Spiritual Center. Mark was a former president of the Minster Jaycees and State Vice President for the Jaycees. He had been a member of the Minster Kiwanis. Mark was an avid golfer and continued the sport into his 90's. He was a volunteer assistant coach for the Minster High School golf team for 5 years. Mark enjoyed his involvement with the Crescent Players and volunteering with the Minster Girl Scouts and the Minster Oktoberfest.
Mark worked for Moorman Feed Manufacturing Company from 1959 until his retirement in 1992. He started in sales and advanced into management. He always enjoyed his visits with the farmers.
Mark had a passion for gardening. His flowers and vegetables were always beautiful and in abundance.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery, Minster.
Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday March 31, 2026, and from 9:00 to 9:30 AM on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, Booneville, Kentucky and The Maria Stein Spiritual Center. Condolences may be left at www.hogenkampfh.com.
