Lawrence Shearer
Lawrence "Larry" J. Shearer, 86, formerly of Elm Street, Celina, died at 3:45 a.m. Dec. 19, 2006, at The Gardens of Celina.
He was born Feb. 19, 1920, in Bealls Mill, W.Va., to John W. and Elizabeth Mulvaney Shearer. On Sept. 5, 1949, he married Betty L. Cron Shearer, who died Sept. 1, 1998.
Survivors are a son, Mark (Mary Ruth), Dayton; two daughters, Linda (Larry) Bollenbacher, Celina, and Diane (Ron) Tatman, Dayton; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, James and Hugh; and three sisters, Agnes and Rosalia Shearer and Helen Lawrence.
He retired as manager of J.C. Penney Co. Inc., Celina, and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, serving during World War II in the South Pacific. A graduate of St. Patrick High School, Weston, W.Va., he was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1800, Celina Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Post 210 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5713, all of Celina.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Tom Brenberger officiating. Burial is at the church cemetery with military honors by the American Legion and VFW posts.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina.
Contributions can be made to the church endowment fund.
