Turtle power
Photo by Mark Pummell/The Daily Standard

A large eastern spiny soft-shell turtle basks in the sun near a smaller turtle early one morning on Grand Lake recently. The shell of the eastern spiny soft-shell turtle is not hard but rubbery. It is aggressive like the snapping turtle and is a very quick swimmer. The spiny soft-shell turtle prefers to live in shallow water with a muddy or sandy bottom, a Web site on Ohio turtles states.
