Clarence "Curly" Newkirk of Hot Springs Village, Ark., walks unassisted under the watchful eye of his wife Irene. The Newkirks came to Mercer County in July for therapy at the Center for Neurological Development in Burkettsville. He is now walking and plans to turn in the wheelchair he has used since suffering a stroke in 2004 when they return home this month.
