Man killed by gunshot

A 23-year-old Lima man was shot and killed early Friday morning during an altercation between several groups of young adults at an Auglaize County home.
Daniel R. King was pronounced dead at the rural Spencerville home by Auglaize County Coroner Dr. Thomas Freytag. Freytag told The Daily Standard that King was shot in the head. An autopsy is pending at the Lucas County Coroner's Office.
Matthew D. Pennington, 21, of Spencerville, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, a third-degree felony, and aggravated menacing, a first-degree misdemeanor. He is being held in the Auglaize County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
Few details have been released by the sheriff's office about the incident, which took place at 4:20 a.m. at the home along state Route 197, just west of state Route 66 near the small village of Kossuth.
Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon said a large "get-together of young adults" was taking place at the residence when another group of young adults arrived and an altercation ensued.
Solomon on Friday afternoon said detectives continue to interview individuals who were at the scene or involved in the fatal incident. Other charges may be filed in connection with the shooting, he added.
State Route 197 to Briggs Road remained closed to traffic Friday afternoon as investigators continued working at the scene. A sheriff's deputy was posted at the closed road to deter motorists.
Assisting with the investigation are St. Marys, Spencerville and Wapakoneta police departments and the Wapakoneta post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The last time a fatal shooting occurred in Auglaize County was in September 2001, when Celina attorney Brent Anderson was fatally wounded by his estranged wife, Kimberly Anderson.
