A 23-year-old Lima man was shot and killed early Friday morning during an altercation between several groups of young adults at an Auglaize County home.
Daniel R. King was pronounced dead at the rural Spencerville home by Auglaize County Coroner Dr. Thomas Freytag. Freytag told The Daily Standard that King was shot in the head. An autopsy is pending at the Lucas County Coroner's Office. [More]

MARIA STEIN - The autumn night was crisp, and though the action on the field wasn't, the Marion Local Flyers played well enough Friday night to garner a 37-0 first-round playoff victory over the Miami East Vikings.
The win was the Flyers' 23rd straight and it kept their season record perfect at 11-0, while the Vikings end the year at 8-3 after the first playoff appearance in school history. [More]

The current Mercer County jail was built in the late 1930s to house a maximum of 30 prisoners based on the standards for jails at the time. In the interim, those standards were tightened and the jail is now certified by the powers that be to handle a maximum of only 15 inmates at a time.
