Teacher/coach relieved from duty in liquor investigation
A Celina teacher/coach has been relieved of all teaching and extracurricular duties following an incident involving alleged possession of alcohol at school.
Travis Boley, a first-year teacher at Celina's alternative school in Montezuma and coach of freshman boys baseball and junior varsity girls basketball, is expected to turn in his resignation in a matter of days, according to Celina Superintendent Matt Miller.
Miller said Boley was put on an unpaid leave of absence, effective April 28. He is a Celina High School graduate and the son of Athletic Director Bruce Boley.
"Our investigation is on-going and it would not be appropriate for me to comment further," Miller told the newspaper this morning.
A report from the Mercer County Sheriff's Office states deputies responded to the district's alternative school at the Franklin building in Montezuma at 2:30 p.m. April 24 after receiving a call regarding a teacher who purchased vodka during the noon lunch hour.
The caller stated Boley was seen pouring the clear liquid into a water bottle.
Detective Chris Hamberg went to the school and reportedly found a water bottle and a soft drink bottle in Boley's locked desk. Both smelled of alcohol, according to Chief Deputy Gery Thobe.
Thobe said no students were present when authorities went to the school.
No criminal charges have been filed and the sheriff's office turned the case over to school officials.
