Vernon Hicks
Former Mendon resident, Vernon R. Hicks, 67, of Bradford, died at 5:43 p.m. Feb. 1, 2009, at Wayne Hospital, Greenville.
He was born Nov. 21, 1941, in Langley, Ky. to Charles Edward and Naomi Osborne Hicks. On March 24, 1962, he married Shirley Demar, who survives.
Other survivors are a son, Donnie (Rene), St. Marys; two daughters, Brenda S. (Glenn) Hill, St. Marys, and Tina M. (Mark) Harrelson, Tollhouse, Calif.; a brother, Eugene (Brenda), Mendon; five sisters, Wanda Mahaffey of Arkansas, Phyllis (Everett) Lauth, Pauline (Wayne) Miller, Bonita (Eric) Welker and June (Dennis) Dorsten, all of Mendon; three grandsons and three granddaughters.
Deceased are a brother, Donnie Edward and three sisters, Mary Agnes Hicks, Dolores Derossett and Joy Brodnicki.
He was retired as general manager of Denny's Restaurant, Dayton, and had attended Mendon-Union High School, and later earned his GED. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the U.S. and Germany.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Mendon First Church of God, the Rev. Dean Bruce officiating. Burial is at Mendon Cemetery.
Calling is 2-4 Thursday at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home, Mendon, and 9-10 a.m. Friday at the church.
