Fr. Robert Onofrey
Fr. Robert Onofrey, C.PP.S., 76, died at 5:10 p.m. April 28, 2009, in the infirmary of St. Charles Center, Carthagena, following an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 18, 1932, in Cleveland to John and Olga Zukovic Onofrey.
Survivors are a brother, Daniel (Clare) Onofrey, Detroit area.
Deceased are a brother and his wife, Edward and Shirley Onofrey.
He entered the Missionaries of the Precious Blood in 1954 and was ordained June 8, 1963. He was a teacher of music and religion and spent most of his years as a priest in education. He was an instructor at Brunnerdale from 1964 to 1972.
Later, he joined the music department of St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind. In 1985, he became a religion instructor at Marist High School in Chicago and also was in ministry there. He retired from teaching in 1997 and ministered in Chicago through 2006.
Funeral Mass is 2 p.m. Friday at St. Charles, Fr. Angelo Anthony officiating. Burial will follow in the community cemetery.
Calling is 1-5 and 7-9 p.m. today at St. Charles, with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m.
