Good health checkup

Five-year-old Drew Turner of St. Marys is measured for height by Auglaize County Director of Nursing Cindy Jones during a visit to the health clinic on Tuesday morning. The activity is part of a campaign this week by health officials to observe National Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, and to educate the public on the issue. Local officials typically handle two or three cases each year concerning children who have been exposed or have ingested the poisonous substance. Poisoning can lead to learning disabilities, hearing loss and other developmental problems. Any homes built prior to 1978 should be inspected for lead, officials say.
