Towering
Photo by Shelley Grieshop/The Daily Standard

The radio tower behind the Mercer County Sheriff's Office in Celina soon will be disassembled and placed in storage, at the request of the sheriff's department. County commissioners on Thursday approved a contract with Robert Belna & Associates of Rockford to enter the property and use a crane to take the tower down. No dollar amount is listed on the contract; the county will pay for the use of the crane but the service is being conducted at no charge. The tower is no longer in use since the sheriff's office/dispatch was moved in February to the new facility west of Celina.
