Calvin Fox
Calvin Dale Fox, 84, Rockford, died at 4:19 p.m. May 24, 2010, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born Nov. 4, 1925, in Rockford, to Peter and Hazel Stewart Fox. On March 29, 1948, he married Betty Jean Rhodes, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Kurt Fox, Mendon, Kris Fox, Dayton, and Keith (Inge) Fox, Xenia; a daughter, Karen (Philip) Warnecke, Sidney; four brothers, Wayne "Pete" (Elaine) Fox, Arcanum, Glen "Grinny" (Cathie) Fox, Celina, Charles (Janelle) Fox, Maumee, and Gary (Patty) Fox, Fairfield; a sister, Barbara Armstrong, Mendon; three sisters-in-law, Lois, Kathleen and Loa Jean Fox, all of Celina; a brother-in-law, Guy (Susan) Rhodes, Bluffton; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are one son, Kerry Paul Fox, who died Oct. 2, 2005, six infant sons and daughters; a grandson; a great-grandson, a sister, Lois Nolan, and three brothers, Paul, Lewis E. and Jimmie D. Fox.
He worked as a high school math teacher and coached baseball, football, basketball and softball for Ohio City and Delphos Jefferson Schools. He was also a door-to-door delivery man for the Omar & Nickles Bakeries. He graduated from Rockford High School and The Ohio State University. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II where he served as a radio air crewman in the Pacific. He was a member of Mendon Lions Club, the Spencerville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 6772 and the Celina American Legion Post #210. He was also a member of the Mendon Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #259, and the Spencerville Chapter #130. He was also a member of the former Mendon Masonic Lodge #586 and the Rockford Masonic Lodge #377. He was also a lifelong member of the Mendon United Methodist Church, where he served on the Church Council for 13 years.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Don Clinger officiating. Burial is at Tomlinson Cemetery near Mendon.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday at W. H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Mendon, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
