A family escaped a house fire at 11680 Coil Road, Mendon, early Friday evening. Around 6:30 p.m. firefighters were called to the property occupied by Justin Ellis and his family, according to Mendon Assistant Fire Chief Darrell Etgen. Etgen said the garage was already consumed in flames when his department arrived. They were joined by Rockford firefighters. Etgen said he did not know what caused the fire; there were no injuries reported Friday evening.
