State Track Field Event Finals

COLUMBUS - Field events dominated the action for local athletes on the first day of the state track meet on Friday. The finals were completed in all field events involving local athletes with the exception of the Division II shot put. The finals in the shot put and the rest of the running events will occur today. Behind bars
CELINA - More than half the beds at the 15-month-old county jail remain empty each day, contrary to predictions by officials before its construction.
Celina Police on Friday morning apprehended a sex offender being sought by the Mercer County Sheriff's Office.
Mark Herron, 46, 525 Lisle St., Celina, was taken into custody hours less than a day after the sheriff's office requested public assistance in locating him.
State Track Running Finals
COLUMBUS - Friday's portion of the state track meet featured the finals in only one type of running event, the 3,200-meter relays. Though only three of these races involved area teams, they provided good action and results for local fans.
State Track Preliminary Races
Semifinal heats were run in the shorter running races to determine the nine finalists to compete in each of these events today. Several area athletes were able to survive and will have a chance to contend for a state championship in their events.
