Verti Lee Chaffins
Former St. Marys resident Verti Lee Chaffins, 79, Bourbonnais, Ill., died Feb. 14, 2012, in the emergency room at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee, Ill.
She was born Nov. 26, 1932, in Mousie, Ky., to Edgle and Cordie Tuttle Wicker. On Feb. 13, 1947, she married Richard Chaffins, who died Oct. 28, 2005.
Surviving are three children, Carolyn Manago, Momence, Ill., Norma (Eric) Prather, Bourbonnais, and Charles (RoseAnn) Chaffins, Sidney; three siblings, Evelyn (Joe) Hale, Dayton, Clyde (Connie) Wicker, St. Marys, and Bud (Shirley) Wicker, St. Marys; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are three siblings, Palmer Slone, William Lee Wicker and Margaret Slone, and a son-in-law, Francisco Manago.
She had worked for Carter Wallace and also Baker and Taylor, Momence. She previously worked at Auglaize Acres Nursing Home, Wapakoneta. She was a member of the Garden of Love Old Regular Baptist Church, St. Marys.
Service is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, Rev. Gary Mosley officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
