Clyde Hirn
Mendon native Clyde M. Hirn, 73, of Sunrise, Fla., died Aug. 1, 2012.
He was born Dec. 5, 1938, in Mendon, to Ernest and Inez Hirn.
Surviving with his wife, Alice, are two daughters, Michele Hirn, Sunrise, and Patricia (James) Fast, St. Marys; a brother, Paul Hirn, St. Marys; two sisters, Margaret (Don) Baker, Spencerville, and Eloise (Lewis) Hubble, Bluffton, Ind.; a grandson; and two great-granddaughters.
Deceased is a brother, Glen Hirn.
A 1956 graduate of Mendon High School and a 1972 graduate of Wright State University, he served in the U.S. Navy and then worked in the city of Dayton's radio department. He also worked on Grand Cayman Island. He joined the U.S. State Department in 1992 as an information management technical specialist and was based in Washington, D.C., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Nairobi and Pretoria, South Africa. While in Nairobi, he earned the Secretary's Award for injuries sustained in a terrorist attack.
He was a member of Plantation United Methodist Church in Plantation, Fla.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial is at Hollywood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Florida.
