First Donut Dash a sweet success

CELINA - For some, nothing starts a fall morning like a fresh donut from the local bakery. For others, a brisk run might do the trick.
Roughly 400 did both - at the same time - on Saturday.
Celina's first Donut Dash, a 5K that gives runners a time advantage for eating and running, was brought to the area by the nonprofit athletic group Rocketship Sports Management. Roger Bowersock, president of the Greenville corporation, said the idea stemmed from an existing bike event, The Tour de Donut. [More]

State undecided about future treatment for algae in Grand Lake
GRAND LAKE - A local official disagrees with a state consultant's assertion that this year's alum treatment on Grand Lake to stop toxic blue-green algae blooms didn't work.

CELINA -  The second casino tax revenue check due in the county's coffers later this month is $71,150 - double the $35,647 netted in late July. Each Ohio county nets quarterly casino tax payments.
CELINA - Four Mercer County political organizations joined forces Sunday afternoon to host Rally in the Park, a venue for conservative politicians, spiritual leaders and other speakers to address the public at the Mercer County Fairgrounds. An estimated 250-300 people attended.
Coldwater's Kelsey Koesters finished the Division II girls state golf tournament with All-Ohio honors after moving into the top 10 on the second day of competition on Ohio State University's Gray Course.
Western Buckeye League Cross Country Meet
OTTAWA - Defiance's Abel Flores dominated Saturday's Western Buckeye League boys cross country race and helped the Bulldogs edge Van Wert for the league championship.
