Herman Alspach
Herman "Jake" Alspach, 86, formerly of St. Marys, died at 4:55 a.m. May 15, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Jan. 1, 1927, in St. Marys, to Joseph "Quince" and Leona (Caldwell) Alspach. He married Pearl Marie Cramer Alspach, who is deceased.
   Surviving are a sister, Loraine Nolte of St. Marys, and dear friends, Rex and Mary Gilbert of Wapakoneta.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Burklo.
Known as a truck driver and "junk man," he helped the Sherman family in their endeavors and was one of the first employees of St. Marys Iron & Steel Co. He later worked as a concrete finisher for Hinton Construction in Celina. 
He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II.
   His favorite pastime was spending time in the outdoors. He always had a smile on his face and a funny story to share to brighten a person's day. Those lucky enough to be called his friends were blessed in every sense of the word. His presence will sorely be missed.
   Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, Mary Gilbert officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens near Moulton. 
Calling is 1 p.m. until time of services Monday at the funeral home.
