An arctic cold front will move through the area this afternoon and evening, bringing snow showers and much colder air. While accumulations will generally be less than one half inch, quick bursts of snow will result in reductions in visibility and slick conditions at times. Some snow squalls are possible, which could lead to locally difficult travel conditions.

* WHAT...Very cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero expected.
* WHERE...Portions of east central and southeast Indiana and central, southwest, and west central Ohio.
* WHEN...From 1 AM Monday to 10 AM EST Wednesday.
* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Very cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure.

Carl Smith
Carl I. Smith, 84, formerly of Spencerville and Russells Point, died at 6:25 p.m. Aug. 13, 2014, at his home in Bonita Springs, Fla., with his family at his side.
He was born Oct. 20, 1929, in Mercer County, to Ernest and Anna Brown Smith. On July 28, 1950, he married Janette Taylor, who survives in Florida.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael C. Smith, Venedocia, and David T. Smith, Fort Myers, Fla.; two grandchildren, Alex Smith and Taylor Anna Smith; three brothers-in-law, Ralph Taylor, Lakeland, Fla., Robert (Carol) Taylor, Van Wert, and Marvin (Nancy) Taylor, Lima; and a sister-in-law, Marcia Hartman, Indianapolis, Ind.
Deceased is a sister, Betty AcAfee.
He was a 1947 graduate of Celina High School and served in the U.S. Navy on a minesweeper following World War II. He owned and operated the Elgin Grain Company with his family for 35 years. He was a member of the Ohio Grain and Seed Dealers Association, a charter member of the Venedocia Lions Club, a member of the Mendon Masonic Lodge and the Community Congregational Church, Russells Point. He was a trustee of Van Wert Hospital and was a licensed pilot using the Van Wert Airport. He also enjoyed scuba diving and fishing.
A memorial service is 4 p.m. Sunday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, Pastor Jim Ellington officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in Venedocia Cemetery.
Calling is 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Van Wert Health Professionals Hospice.
