Dorothy Bayer
Dorothy Bayer, 92, St. Marys, passed away Oct. 27, 2014.
She was born Jan. 11, 1922, in Dayton, to Carl and Marie Peters. On Aug. 27, 1946, she married returning World War II veteran Marvin Bayer, who is deceased.
Surviving are three children, Michael (Phyllis) Bayer, Nancy (Bob) Jacobs and Thomas (Briana) Bayer; six grandchildren, Andrew, Christopher (Nicole), Peter (Emily), Andrew, Maris and Merrill; two great-grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends in St. Marys and Dayton.
Also deceased are a son, Nicholas, and a grandson Alex (Jennifer).
She was a devoted spouse and partner for 62 years. She was a meticulous housekeeper, accomplished cook and avid reader. Her special weaknesses were auctions, yard sales and Esther Price candy.
While serious about important things, she could be incapacitated with laughter at the eccentric antics of her extended family. She had a sharp mind and keen wit and amazed all who knew her with her strength.
Much of the source of that strength was a deep religious faith and the love and support of her friends in the Holy Rosary parish. The kindness and devotion of her friends was not only a testament to her character but also a reflection of the goodness of so many of the people in her community.
Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Marys, the Rev. Barry Stechschulte, officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.
Calling is 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Miller Funeral Home, west chapel, St. Marys.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer, Auglaize and Van Wert counties, P.O. Box 304, St. Marys, OH 45885.
Condolences may be sent to www.millerfuneralhomes.net.
