Joyce Hone
Joyce Ann Hone, 84, Celina, died at 6:55 p.m. Nov. 14, 2014, at The Gardens, Celina.
She was born April 28, 1930, in Celina, to Dussel and Peggy Pifer Lohrentz. On June 4, 1977, she married Dennis Hone, who survives in Celina.
Also surviving are a daughter, Kay (Rick) Simpson, Celina; two stepsons, David (Mary) Hone, Celina, and Kevin Hone, Celina; five grandchildren, Tara May, Adrienne Kalal, Tamlyn Kalal, Brian Youngs and Blake Simpson; four stepgrandchildren, Kristine, Dalton, Amanda and Jaysen Hone; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Tom Kalal, and a brother, Don Lohrentz.
She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a 1948 graduate of Celina High School and a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a bachelor's degree in education.
She taught for 30 years at Chickasaw and Celina schools and St. Marys Memorial High School. She also served as an assistant coach at Memorial High School in girls tennis for two years and softball for 10 years. Her softball teams were four-time district champions and reached the state finals in 1981.
She was an alumni member of Gamma Phi Beta, a founding member of the Sigma Sorority and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the women educators' honor society. She also was a member of the Ohio Education Association, National Education Association, the Mercer County and Ohio Retired Teachers associations, the Celina History Club and the University Club (Red Hats).
She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Celina, and its choir. She also served as church treasurer and was part of its PPR and Willing Workers. She was the oldest membership holder at the church.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Jonathan Exman officiating. Burial will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
