Helen Wissman
Helen L. Wissman, 88, New Bremen, died at 8:08 a.m. Nov. 30, 2014, at Elmwood Assisted Living, New Bremen.
She was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Mercer County near New Bremen, to Benjamin and Evelyn Rump Brockman. On May 14, 1949, she married Richard G. Wissman, who died Sept. 16, 1982.
Surviving are a daughter, Kay (David) Wren, Lima; a daughter-in-law, Susan Wissman, New Bremen; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Vernita (Mack) Wellman, New Bremen; a special niece, Joyce Wente, Minster; and several other nieces and nephews.
Also deceased are a son, Robert Wissman; a grandson, Cory Wissman; three brothers, Earl, Paul and Warren Brockman; and a sister, Gladys Gruebmeyer.
She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen, where she had taught Sunday school and was a member of the church's Busy 12. She also was a member of New Bremen Senior Citizens and American Legion Post 241 Auxiliary, and had held offices in each of the organizations.
She was a former 4-H advisor and Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed traveling with her sister-in-law, Mary Stewart, playing cards, putting puzzles together and baking for family and friends.
She had worked at Crown Equipment Corp., New Bremen, for 10 years and for many years after had worked in the deli department at Howell's IGA, New Bremen. She was a seamstress, altering clothing for many people over the years.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, the Rev. Becky Erb Strang officiating. Burial will follow at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
Calling is 3-6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the New Bremen Fire Foundation, American Legion Post 241 Auxiliary or the church memorial fund.
